My experience in Zaria and why we must pray for Nigeria and Christians in the North | By Professor Emmanuel Kolawole

My experience in Zaria and why we must pray for Nigeria and Christians in the North | By Professor Emmanuel Kolawole

Many years back I went to Zaria on a mission, and that happened to be my first time in Zaria. On getting there I was provided with necessary information to help me adjust to new surroundings, and learn to relate with the Hausas. At that time, let me explain how Zaria looked like: while Zaria did not technically experience a "war," it has experienced violence, conflicts and unrest, ethnic and religious violence. All these have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of properties, displacement of communities, and wretchedness in the land. Ha! It was like a war zone at that period! We held church meetings quietly and shared the gospel in the neighbourhood with a subtle approach. This has to be done before 4pm late afternoon. Public evangelism in Zaria as at that time was a sensitive activity. Publicly and openly evangelising was highly challenging. Living was really challenging, the battle was fierce. No time for lackadaisical attitude. It is either you are for Jesus or not. Either Jesus or the world. The choice is yours!

There is still religious tension and ongoing insecurity in Zaria today because the underlying factors that have caused past religious tension still exist.

We must pray for the church of Jesus and those serving in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Christian communities and churches in Northern Nigeria face significant challenges, including security issues and conflict, which make prayer and support vital.

Let's pray:
Pray that the church will "preach the Word of God without apology" and "boldly share Jesus as the only hope for salvation" (2 Timothy 4:2, Acts 4:12).

Ask God to give His servants strength, courage, and boldness to preach the gospel fearlessly, as the disciples did in Acts 4.

Pray for God's protection, trusting that He will act according to His will to save those serving in the Northern region of Nigeria from harm (Psalm 91:15).

Ask God to provide for their practical needs and to give them His peace and comfort amid their suffering (2 Corinthians 1:7-9).

The History Of Online Bible Schools In Nigeria.

The history of online Bible schools in Nigeria is rooted in the expansion of traditional institutions and the emergence of digital-first schools. While traditional Bible schools have existed since the 1950s, the first tuition-free, 100% online Bible college, Biblical University and College of Ministry & Seminary, was founded in 2008 by Prof. Emmanuel Kolawole. This marked a significant shift, as many established institutions, like tcnn.edu.ng and thebookacademy.org.ng, began offering online programs to reach a wider audience.

Early history and traditional schools

• 1950s: Traditional Bible schools and seminaries emerged, such as the Nigerian Christian Bible College, founded in 1954, and the Christ Apostolic Church Theological Seminary in 1955.

• Early 2000s: The start of the 21st century saw the beginning of digital learning, but there was no established institution offering 100% online study in Nigeria.

The rise of online Bible schools

• Early Online Presence: The foundation was laid in 2008 by the Biblical University and College of Ministry & Seminary in Nigeria, which began offering its programs online while initially having a small physical presence.

• 2008: The Biblical University and College of Ministry & Seminary was established, becoming the first tuition-free Bible and theological institution in Nigeria to offer 100% online studies and free books.

• Expansion of Online Offerings: By 2014, other institutions were also developing online strategies. The Christian Leaders Institute established a study center in Port Harcourt, creating a "hybrid" model that combined its web-based training with local, face-to-face mentorship and practice sessions.

• Present: Many traditional and new institutions now offer online programs, with growth in popularity and the use of online platforms to deliver Christian education.

Surely, there's an end...

Surely, there's an end to unfaithful prophets who align with Ahab uncritically - this implies an acceptance of Ahab's views, actions, or beliefs without questioning, challenging, or considering whether he was good or bad, right or wrong, and a random arrow shall strike Ahab unknowingly. King Ahab is depicted in the Bible as one of Israel's most wicked kings due to his association with Baal worship and the injustices he and Jezebel committed.

Ahab hated the bearer of God’s message. His real conflict was with God, but he focused his hatred against the prophet Micaiah.

The undiscriminating, unthinking, undiscerning, and insensitive actions to other people's feelings shall be judged. This means, individuals who act without careful thought, or who fail to show empathy or understanding towards others, and treat people without regard for their unique situations or emotions, will face consequences for their actions.

400 prophets spoke in agreement on one issue. No matter how powerful and persuasive their presentation, their message was unfaithful.

There's a lying spirit hovering the land, an atmosphere where falsehood, deception, and false prophecy are widely accepted, leading people away from the truth.

No matter your situation or how poor you may look, God is looking for those who will stand and speak unapologetically, and ready to speak on behalf of the LORD.

1 Kings 22:20 KJV
"And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner".

Since Ahab wanted to be deceived, God would give him what He wanted, using a willing fallen angel who worked through willing unfaithful prophets.

Ahab went into the battle, and did not want to be identified as a king and therefore be a special target. He thought this would help protect him against Micaiah’s prophecy of doom, but God orchestrated the unintended actions of a man to result in an exercise of His judgment. "And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded" 1 Kings 22:34

Ahab faced the end of his life, dying propped up in his chariot. When his death became known, the battle was over.

I want to take a moment to encourage you and to pray with you, that in the midst of the battles we face, whether they are physical, spiritual, or emotional, please know that victory is certain.

The struggles impacting our nation, our churches, our families, our ministries, and our businesses will soon come to an end. The forces that have been working against you will be rendered powerless.

God will sovereignly and intentionally intervene to bring an end to a source of severe oppression, control, and suffering in Nigeria in Jesus mighty name, amen

Let us stand firm in faith as we await the manifestation of His promises.
